Made with just 5 ingredients, this Easy Peasy Garlic Hummus is better than any store-purchased hummus for many reasons.
Easy Peasy Garlic Hummus + raw veggies is one of my go-to snacks.
I’m a creature of habit and this characteristic is evident when looking at my food choices. I tend to stick to the same ol’ snacks and meals. You too?! While these choices change with each season, it seems as if hummus is always one of my go-to snacks. Whether it’s this Easy Peasy Garlic Hummus or one of my paleo-friendly hummus recipes (Cauliflower Garlic Hummus or Cauliflower Curry Hummus), I always have it on hand. I love the versatility of hummus, how you can easily change the flavor, and that it’s so simple to make. Kids (and husbands) will love it too. It may even get your kids to eat more veggies as they’ll have something tasty to dip them into!
This gluten-free and vegan-friendly recipe can be made in less than 10 minutes. For real! I’m all about quick and simple recipes. You will need a food processor or high-powered blender. (Here’s a food processor similar to the one I have). I usually double this recipe so that it’ll last the entire week. Especially if you’re feeding a family or making this for a gathering or party, I’d definitely recommend doubling it!
Changing the flavor is simple!
This Easy Peasy Garlic Hummus is my basic hummus recipe. You can easily add additional ingredients to change the flavor. Some of my favorite add-in’s include roasted red peppers, basil, and curry powder.
Tahini is a main ingredient in almost all hummus recipes.
Tahini might just be one of my most favorite foods. I love it! Definitely in my top 10. I use it in both savory and sweet recipes and also as a substitute for nut butters. Tahini is a Middle Eastern paste made from grinding sesame seeds. You can purchase Tahini at most grocery stores and is typically found in the ethnic aisle, by the other nut and seed butters, or in the health foods area. You can also make your own by toasting the sesame seeds and then processing them in a food processor until a pasta forms.
Dietitian and Dave Ramsey (financial guru) approved!
There are 2 main perks of making your own hummus. First, you know exactly what is going into the hummus. While there are some ‘clean’ brands out, many store purchased hummus’s are made with high-processed seed oils such as canola or vegetable (soybean) oil. When you make your own hummus you are in control of the ingredients so you can add nutritious oils that are anti-inflammatory and full of healthy fats, such as my favorite avocado oil from Primal Kitchen Foods. Easy Peasy Garlic Hummus is high in fiber and contains a good source of healthy fats with a little protein too.
The second perk to making your own hummus is that it’s budget-friendly. My hubby and I are working on paying off student loans + saving money, so I’ve been extra in-tune with budgeting..hence the Dave Ramsey approved! A small 8 oz. container of hummus can cost nearly $4.00. Using this recipe, you can make two or three times more for the same price! And remember it only takes 5 minutes to make!
Dip it, spread it, add it.
Easy Peasy Garlic Hummus makes for a bomb veggie dip. It can add flavor to a wrap and makes for a delicious addition to all kinds of salads – veggie salads, tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad…you name it!
Alright, now my question to you is what is your favorite way to eat hummus?
